Cait Cortelyou (born Caitlin Elizabeth Schatell Johnston) is an American actress and filmmaker. She was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and has Russian and Scottish ancestry. She is a descendant of Jacques Cortelyou, who created the first map of New York City. Cait showed an early interest in theater, performing in Shakespeare plays starting at the age of 8. She moved to Manhattan immediately after high school to attend Barnard College of Columbia University, where she studied acting with Juilliard professors and graduated with honors over a year early. Cait is also an alum of the National Theater Institute at the Tony Award-winning O'Neill Theater Center in Connecticut, and has studied with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford. A longtime supporter of women's rights and reproductive health, in May of 2016 Cait conceived of the project Ask for Jane (2018), about a real group of women who provided thousands of safe and illegal abortions in the years leading up to Roe v. Wade. She enlisted the help of writer Rachel Carey, and went on to produce and star in the feature film. Cait has also appeared in a recurring role on Steven Soderbergh's The Knick (2014) and in a slew of award-winning independent films including Ripped! (2014), The Fragrance Thief (2015) and Bad Neighbours (2014). She is a member of acclaimed New York theatre company The Shelter, the New York Women in Film and Television, and is an activist with Planned Parenthood. - IMDb Mini Biography By: Anonymous
