Bella Star Choy was born in British Columbia but spent her first four years in Hong Kong before returning to live in Vancouver in 2015. She is the only child of actress Maggie Blue O'Hara and renowned Hong Kong sand-painting artist and award-winning animator Hoi Chiu. Bella's first professional stage performance was at the age of 9 months, when she appeared in Taiwan's Mobius Strip Theatre's production Ten Bulls. She next appeared in Spiral of Life (2013), a multimedia stage production created by All Theatre Art Association in Hong Kong, in which she was one of the featured performers and an audience favourite. Bella has also been a solo dancer in two HK international dance showcases in support of raising awareness around whales and dolphins in captivity.
