Born in Washington, D.C. to her father, a lawyer, and her mother, a business woman, Kelly lived in Northern Virginia until she was 11, when her family moved to Portland, Oregon. The performing bug had struck early, and by the age of 3 she had memorized every song from the Wizard of Oz record. Her debut was in the 6th grade, when she moved to her new school and beat out all the boys to play the part of Scrooge in "A Christmas Story". She then appeared in professional theater in Portland from the age of 11, and after attending Oregon State University, moved to Los Angeles to extend her career into film and television.
